These changes are very threatening to many people. Through police exercises such as the "Urban Warriors" marine training program in Oakland, government officials try to intimidate people who might even stop to consider making real changes to the current political/economic/class systems. But I am optimistic. I believe that there are better ways of living and I truly think that if given a chance, most people could come up with a more fulfilling way to live than current mass consumer culture has to offer. Behind the scenes people are organizing, and getting ready to be a part of this world-wide change in perspective. It is our world, what are we going to do with it?

Materialism has kept us alive as a species up until now. But this obsessive need to consume and produce is on longer necessary. Scarcity of the means of survival no longer exists, except in our minds. For many people, even love is just another act of consumption where one is trying to fill themselves up, like an all-you-can-eat Sizzler dinner! We know that there is more out there than pacifying ourselves with more entertainment and consumption at the expense of third world countries. People are waiting for the chance to explore what else life has to offer.
We will get that chance.
